How roots block a sewer
Tree roots can enter a sewer through openings at joints or damaged sections of pipe. Once inside, they grow into the flow path. Paper and other waste catch on the roots, and a partial restriction can become a backup.
In Levittown, most clogs we deal with come from wipes, tree roots and old pipes. These problems can overlap: roots in an older line can catch wipes and create a stubborn blockage.
Clear the roots from the line
We use drain cleaning machines to work through root blockages. We look for the access closest to the trouble, using a cleanout when it provides the best approach or another drain opening when needed.
We clear the roots obstructing the sewer to restore flow. When root trouble returns, we look beyond the latest blockage and discuss the condition of the pipe. Roots can grow back through an opening that remains in the line.
Look at the pipe when needed
We recommend a sewer camera inspection when roots are involved or a clog keeps returning. It is available as an optional, separate service with its own charge. The inspection shows roots and visible pipe damage.
If the sewer needs replacement, we dig and replace the pipe. We also offer locating to establish its route.
We offer same-day service. Free estimates on most jobs. If there's ever a charge, we'll tell you up front.
Common questions
Can roots cause more than one drain to back up?
Yes. A restriction in a shared sewer line can affect several fixtures.
Can roots return after removal?
They can grow back through openings in the pipe. Recurring trouble calls for a closer look at the line.
Is a camera inspection included?
It is a separate service with its own charge. We recommend it when needed for root trouble.
